I recently had to take an emergency trip home to be with my family. When I arrived, it was clear our family home needed urgent repairs, especially our mother’s bathroom. Thankfully, I come from a big family. Siblings, cousins, grandkids, even neighbors came together to do what they could. No one could do everything, but everyone did something. And together, we got it done! While I was away for those three weeks, I saw that same spirit at Quilting for Community. Board members, volunteers, and studio apprentices stepped up with love and care to keep things running. They showed up like family does! That’s the village WE are!

We don’t just sew quilts, we show up! We see a need, and we fill it! Thank you to everyone for making this whole Quilting for Community thing go! What started as a simple idea to sew, to give, to gather has become a full-on movement because of you. Whether you’ve stitched with us, donated fabric, showed up to a class, spread the word, volunteered your time, or just cheered us on from afar, YOU are part of what keeps this heart-powered machine running. We’re building something beautiful together, one quilt, one person, one moment at a time. If you or someone you know who would like to train to be a volunteer, please let us know. We could always use more hands!

We were recently awarded a grant from the LA County Department of Arts & Culture. We’re deeply grateful. It’s the cherry on top, but the cake is still in the making. That grant represents just about 5% of our total budget. We still need to raise an additional $40,000 by the end of the year to keep doing what we do, offering low-cost classes, paying fair wages to teachers, keeping the lights on, and welcoming anyone who walks through our doors with care, creativity, and community.
