Happy Holidays Friends, The year 2023 is ending and I can't believe how much Quilting for Community's Design Center & Fabric Thrift Store has grown and spread out! Have you read "To The Stars Through Difficulties" by Romalyn Tilghman? It's a good read and you can listen to it as an audiobook as well! This fictional novel has many moments that remind me of our experiences at Q4C! It's like fiction brought to life! In the book, a group called "The No Guilters" AKA "The No Guilt Quilters" holds a fundraiser. They sell pot holders and fiber art to keep their art center open. One character explores her family history and discovers her grandmother's role in establishing a Carnegie Library in Kansas in the 1900s. How did she do it? She and other women organized ice cream socials to raise the money. Ms. Tilghman's fiction illustrates the inspiring efforts of real women addressing community needs. That's us - Quilting for Community, sharing quilting skills for free whilst fostering community. That is why we offer The Design Center to the community! The Design Center is our Community Arts Center, all of ours! Not everyone can afford the investment that quilting incurs, i.e. classes, machines, tools, craft room, etc. but TOGETHER, we CAN! If you haven’t already, make a contribution before December 31st! Your support enables free quilting classes, tools, materials, scholarships for low-cost sewing classes, and general operating costs to keep The Design Center open!
