Last month, we hosted our very first in-person Artist & The Quilters with the amazing Romalyn Tilghman and it was a huge success! Romalyn shared her story and inspirations. We learned that much of her research for “To The Stars Through Difficulties” came from the Kansas Library’s Meeting Minutes and Scrapbooks. Linda came up with the fantastic idea that we should begin scrap-booking Q4C’s history!

Romalyn gifted each of us a health journal which led to a beautiful writing exercise. We each reflected on how Q4C supports our mental health and what it means for our lives. All of the responses were heartwarming, but the one above stood out for all of us!

It’s events like this that make me reflect on what this place means to so many, not just the quilts we make, but the people who walk through the door. It’s the people who bring joy, calm, and creativity to Q4C. You add something wonderful to the vibe of this place. It’s the vibe that makes it so unique, so special.

Thank you, Romalyn, for your generosity and presence and thank you to all of you for sharing your hearts.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Lisa & Jacinta

(Sorry, I just couldn’t manage to find pics of them alone.)

Lisa Joy (on the left) has been with Q4C since our very first class in Feb. 2019. She showed up, rolled up her sleeves, and basically never left.

As our Safety Director, she keeps things safe, clean, and almost too fun. She helped build our studio classroom, helped haul several long-arm quilting machines (with her equally unstoppable twin sister Lori), and has probably carried more furniture than most moving companies.

Her laugh is unforgettable—in the best way. It fills the room, turns heads, and lets you know Lisa’s in the building. And if you’re within a 10-foot radius, you’re probably in a selfie whether you meant to be or not.

Lisa makes Q4C feel like home, with a little extra volume, a lot of heart and tons of JOY!

Jacinta! (The one on the right)💫

Jacinta also keeps us laughing, smiling, and occasionally scratching our heads with her boundless creativity and one-of-a-kind perspective. She’s basically our resident wild card, in the best possible way.

From the moment we met her, she’s been nothing short of amazing! She brings loving energy and a kind of helpful spirit that makes everyone around her feel lucky to be on the same team (even if we’re not entirely sure what she’s making until it’s done, and then we love it).

You can also catch her once a month at CSUN, working her magic at the Mending Station, sharing her skills and heart with everyone she meets.

We love you both! Thank you for being such a bright light in our community! 💛

6/21 (10am-1pm)- Repair Cafe @ Quilting for Community

Don’t throw it out! Get it fixed! Volunteers will fix clothes, sharpen scissors, and make simple jewelry repairs.

Repair Cafe is a global initiative to reduce waste, save money, and build community by encouraging repair over replacement. The first Repair Café began in Amsterdam in 2009 by Martine Postma and has since spread worldwide.
