Let’s Dig a Little!

We often hear people say there’s something special happening here at the Design Center. It’s not just our mission or the atmosphere we aim to create. It’s deeper than that! It’s older than that! It’s ancestral, even! Follow me.

As we dig into the history of where we are in Chatsworth, we are peeling back layers and finding quite the treasure of information! Recently, we learned that the parcel of land that Q4C currently resides on (Devonshire & Owensmouth) was once the home of The Chatsworth Women’s Community Center, built in 1922. Who knew that 100 years later, Quilting for Community would move onto the same parcel?

The Chatsworth Women’s Club established in 1921 after the 19th Amendment granted women the right to vote! The club is still active to this day!*

We love this motto! It exemplifies the grit, heart, urgency, and determination necessary to erect a building meant to serve its community. That sounds like us! The CWCC building was demolished years before we came along. Now, it’s Champion Plaza! (Home of Champions!)😉

We “dig” that Q4C is building community in the very place our foremothers did the same! As we continue to dig, we look forward to learning what happened here even before that. Moreover, we look forward to what more will be built here in the future!
